Case Overview
Positioning Partners partnered with the Thinc Foundation, founded by Dr Lucky Mathebula, to transform an outdated digital presence into a modern platform that better reflects the Foundation’s intellectual credibility, purpose and ambitions.
The project extended beyond a website redesign. We repositioned the Foundation’s digital presence around a clearer value proposition, rebuilt the website with stronger UI and UX, created pathways for stakeholder engagement, strengthened its search foundations through SEO, developed its digital content ecosystem and supported the positioning of its founder as a visible thought leader.
The Brief
The Thinc Foundation had valuable intellectual capital, a credible founder and a compelling purpose, but its digital presence did not adequately communicate any of these strengths.
Our initial website audit identified significant usability, content and search issues. The homepage lacked a clear value proposition and calls to action. Navigation was inconsistent and difficult to follow, several pages were empty or outdated, important content was difficult to discover, and the site lacked many of the visual trust signals expected of a credible policy and research organisation.
The website also had SEO and performance limitations, including weak page structure, missing or inadequate metadata, insufficient image optimisation and slow mobile performance.
The brief was therefore to build a digital presence that could:
- Clearly articulate what the Thinc Foundation does and why its work matters.
- Strengthen the organisation’s credibility with partners, institutions and stakeholders.
- Make its research, services, thinking and leadership easier to discover.
- Improve navigation, usability and the mobile experience.
- Build a stronger foundation for organic search visibility.
- Create clearer pathways for enquiries, partnerships and engagement.
- Strengthen the visibility of Dr Lucky Mathebula and the Foundation’s thought leadership.

Our Approach
We approached the project as a digital repositioning exercise, beginning with the organisation and its audiences before rebuilding the website around what visitors needed to understand, trust and do.
The result was a substantially expanded digital ecosystem that brings together the Foundation’s purpose, leadership, areas of work, thought leadership and stakeholder engagement opportunities within one coherent platform.
Positioning & Messaging
We clarified how the Thinc Foundation should present itself online, leading with its core proposition: “Building Nations Through Thinking.”
The new website now immediately explains the Foundation as a public policy research, analysis and engagement organisation and connects that positioning to its areas of work, institutional purpose and intended impact.
Website, UI & UX
We redesigned the website around a clearer information hierarchy and more intuitive user journeys, introducing structured navigation, responsive page layouts, stronger visual hierarchy, relevant imagery, clear calls to action and visible credibility signals.
The previous fragmented structure was reorganised so visitors can more easily understand the Foundation, explore its work, learn about its leadership, access its thinking and make contact. The current site also includes dedicated enquiry pathways rather than leaving visitors without a clear next step.
SEO & Content
We implemented an SEO-led approach across the new website, encompassing technical and on-page optimisation, site structure, metadata, headings, image optimisation and content development.
Content was reorganised around the Foundation’s expertise and strategic focus areas, while a dedicated thought-leadership ecosystem gives the organisation an ongoing platform for publishing relevant perspectives and building searchable intellectual assets over time.
Digital Presence & Thought Leadership
Our work extended beyond the website. Positioning Partners established and optimised the Foundation’s social media presence and provided strategic guidance on branding, content, thought leadership and the personal positioning of Dr Lucky Mathebula.
This created a more connected digital presence in which the organisation, its intellectual output and its founder can reinforce one another’s visibility and credibility.
The Results
The Thinc Foundation now has a digital presence that more accurately reflects the calibre of the organisation and the thinking behind it.
The new website has transformed an unclear and outdated online presence into a structured platform for credibility, discovery and stakeholder engagement. Visitors can immediately understand what the Foundation does, explore its work and leadership, access its thinking and take a clear next step.
